In a sample of 32 cities around the world, Singaporeans were rated the fastest walkers, followed by citizens of Copenhagen, Madrid and Guangzhou in China. The study was commissioned by the British Council and headed by Richard Wiseman, a psychology professor at University of Hertfordshire near London. In the study, researchers observed pedestrians one day around noon, local time, in August 2006. Singaporeans on an average clocked 10.55 seconds walking along a 60-ft stretch of not-too-crowded pavement. |
