On 7 Sep 1995, the world’s first peripheral blood stem cell transplant was carried out on four-year-old Thalassaemia Major patient, Joshua Soong Chuan Shen at SGH. In this case, stem cells were extracted from the donor’s blood instead of the traditional method via the bone marrow. |
