Data Info |
The world’s first cord blood transplant from an unrelated donor was conducted on 3 Jul 2001. The patient, Oh Tze Sun, a five-and-a-half-year-old Malaysian Chinese boy suffering from Thalassaemia Major, a hereditary blood disorder which reduces the body’s haemoglobin level, underwent the transplant performed by doctors from SGH and NUH. Since then, no red blood cell transfusions were needed by him. |
