Asst Prof Francis Tay and his NUS team, in 2004, created a high-tech SOS shirt designed to send out an alert if an elderly person suffers a fall. The shirt with a device fitted near the pocket detects the speed and tilt of the wearer. Using Bluetooth wireless technology, it will send a signal to a mobile phone or computer which will then alert relatives and friends of the victim with a call, SMS message or email. |
