Data Info |
Prof Seeram Ramakrishnan and his team of 30 NUS researchers have developed the first gas mask that decomposes nerve agents into non-toxic substances. Traditional gas masks have always used filters and activated carbon that trap inhaled chemical agents but are unable to break them down. The 2006 prototype, made from PVC nanofibres and embedded with catalysts which break down nerve gases, will protect soldiers against chemical warfare. The research project was commissioned by DSTA. |
