NTU has developed a ‘gap clearing’ mechanism to help wheelchair users board a bus faster and also clear low steps, such as roadside curbs. The invention that was showcased at the launch of the Society for the Physically Disabled on 31 May 2006 has two large back wheels, which balances the user’s weight. The ‘roller skis’ help support the user, who can roll the wheelchair easily over a gap. |
