TechNet was established in 1991 as a closed research and development computer network for academics at the NUS, set up by the National Science and Technology Board of Singapore and its connectivity was provided by a 128-kbps satellite link from JvNCnet. In 1994, SingTel launched the first commercial internet service provider, SingNet. In 1995, a consortium (SembMedia, ST Computer Systems and SIM) bought TechNet, and commercialised its services in Sep 1995 when it launched Pacific Internet. |
