The Singapore Art Museum, opened in 1995, has the world’s largest and most important public collection of SouthEast Asian modern and contemporary art. The collection may be traced to its predecessor, the National Museum Art Gallery, which opened in 1976 to a bequest of 93 works collected by the late Dato Loke Wan Tho. The museum’s collection was augmented in 1994 when it received a donation of 53 works by pioneer painter Georgette Chen. |
