Amateur film-maker Tan Pin Pin was the first Singaporean to win a Student Academy Award for her documentary, Moving House, in May 2002. The award was given out by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the same body that awards Oscars. It was established in 1972 to support film-making at university level.
