Orkestra Melayu Singapura was formed in Sep 1991. Led by Mohammed Mokhtar Abdullah, it consisted of Western brass and woodwind instruments, as well as a gong and a Malay drum. The orchestra gave its debut performance on 11 Apr 1992.
