In 1951, two women became members of the Legislative Council, similar to what is the Parliament now. Elizabeth Choy was nominated to the Council by the Governor after she contested unsuccessfully at the Municipal Elections as an independent candidate. The other was Vilasini Menon who successfully contested for a seat in the Council as an independent. |
