Data Info Sophia Blackmore, an Australian, was the first single female missionary to be sent to Singapore by the Methodist Episcopal Church. She came to Singapore in 1887. She started the Methodist Girls’ School with nine girls and a year later, the Fairfield Methodist Girls’ School. In 1890, she opened the Nind Home for Women’s Work. She concluded her work in Singapore in 1928 and died in Australia in 1946.
