St Margaret’s School was founded in 1842 by Mrs Maria Dyer, a missionary with the London Missionary Society. The school which began as a shelter for young girls sold in the streets, and gave girls from poor families the opportunity to have free education. Originally located at a shophouse in North Bridge Road, the primary school moved to River Valley Road and later Sophia Road. A secondary school was built in Farrer Road in 1957. |
