The 17th-storey Cathay Building was the tallest building in South-East Asia when it was completed in Oct 1939. It was designed by Frank W Brewer, the first university-qualified architect to work in Singapore. The Asia Insurance Building with 18 storeys, when completed in 1955, was for many years Singapore’s tallest building. |
