At the 1987 SEA Games, in the open category for judo, Ho Yen Chye won a total of seven medals, including a gold medal. He bagged a medal for every outing at the Asian and SEA Games from 1983 to 1991. Ho was also national champion for nine consecutive years in the heavyweight category, from 1984 to 1992.
