UK Shyam holds the 100-m sprint record with a timing of 10.37 sec. At the World University Games in Beijing in 2001, he broke the 33-year-old record of 10.38 sec set by Canagasabai Kunalan. He equalled his own national record soon after at the 21st SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.
