Canagasabai Kunalan’s record of 10.38 sec for the 100-m sprint set in the 1968 Mexico Olympics, stood for 33 years until it was broken by UK Shyam in 2001. His record of 21 min 0 sec for 200m stood till today. He came in second in both the 1966 and 1970 Asian Games 100-m sprint. He was awarded the Best Sportsman Award in 1968 and 1969.
