Data Info The first merlion statue was first built in 1972.
It stood eight m tall at its orgina location at the mouth of the Singapore River to serve as a welcoming symbol to all visitors to the island.
The Merlion was built by a local craftsman, Mr Lim Nang Seng.
In 2002, it moved from the mouth of the Singapore river to the Merlion Park, located next to One Fullerton.
