Singapore Slingers, the first professional basketball team based in Southeast Asia was launched on 23 May 2006. The team won the right to play in the National Basketball League's (NBL) Philips Championship. It is the first team outside the Oceania zone to be awarded a license. The Singapore Slingers will be based at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
