In 1932, air-conditioning made it debut in Singapore when United Engineers was appointed distributor of Carrier products. The first Carrier unit was installed at the Chinese Club.
The first public entertainment place to be air-conditioned was Cathay cinema when it opened in 1939.
The Bank of China Building built in 1954 was the first building to be centrally air-conditioned.
