Data Info |
Assoc Prof Chia Tet Fatt of NTU created the world's
first bioluminescent orchid in 2000. This process
involved transforming tissues from the
orchids (the Dendrobium genus), using the
firefly luciferase gene. The bioluminescent
orchid uses its own energy to produce light,
visible to the human eye for up to five
hours in a stretch.
