Chua Phung Kim was one of the few Singapore sportsmen to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. In the 1962 Games in Perth, Phung Kim won the bantamweight gold medal with a record lift of 710lbs. He also broke the records for the press (215lbs), snatch (225lbs) and jerk (270lbs). He broke the Games total record by a large magin of 50 lbs. Phung Kim also won a gold medal at the 4th SEAP Games in 1965. He won the silver medal at the 1970 Commonwealth Games at Edinburgh, losing the gold by a mere 2.5kg. |
