Longest kite ever flown in Singapore - Editorial
On January 17, 1988 history was made in Singapore marking the successful launch and five-minute flight of the longest ever kite at (224 metres long).
Twelve men held it up while nine others, led by 70 year old master kite maker Loh Chin Nghee, waited with bated breath for the wind to whip up a strong enough draft.
Then it was up, up and away – with Mr. Loh and friends pulling, tugging and running.
For Mr. Loh, a retired seaman, his string tugging love affair began as a child in Swatow, China. He has been making his giant kites since 1980 and has a string of awards to his name.
